(More customer reviews)My mother was a great cook, until she no longer had the energy to stir thick batters, cut vegetables, mix several ingredients -- cook as she once did.
With this book, she might have been able to stay in her home longer, enjoy eating again, and even have friends over to celebrate occasions together.
McFarlane has found a way to make cooking attractive for those whose taste buds are in better health than their body. If I'd had this book for Mom, I could have bought her the ingredients on our weekly shopping trips. I'd have been sure she would eat well even between my visits.
I think it is crucial that McFarlane has gotten real about what seniors can do and will do. And I like her idea that seniors and their grandchildren can have fun making simple meals together.
These are not recipes for the gourmet who hopes to look cool while in the kitchen. These recipes are for real older people who need help getting interested again in healthy, easy and good tasting recipes -- recipes they really can look forward to making.
The Healthy Seniors Cookbook is for your mom or dad who needs the boost. Get the book, share a look through the recipes, shop with them, and then enjoy their renewed interest in the kitchen.
My mom is not alive now, so since I recently discovered this book, I've given copies to older members of my family. And I'm using some of these recipes when I come home from work and don't have energy myself for cooking.
