This cookbook has a variety of interesting complete meal salads. The flavors of dressings are especially good, and can be used elsewhere. But it is the combination of salad ingredients that sets this book apart--tasty but not so unusual that you have to go to a specialty market for them. All are refreshing, healthy and especially tasty for summer dinners and for those of us that like one-dish meals.

Forget the stressful dinner party for twelve. How many home cooks really drag out the china, silver, and linen more than a few times a year these days? Mom's very best crowd-cuisine is fun, relaxed, and informal. From a hungry group of the kids' friends looking for afternoon munchies to a potluck office farewell party to a 4th of July barbecue for the neighborhood, today's typical gatherings are casual occasions to share hearty, homemade food.Mom's Best Crowd-Pleasers is full of recipes that reflect the way Mom really cooks today, simply tailored to feed eight or more people. Cucumber Sandwiches, Quesadillas, and Sweet and Sour Meatballs are all simple finger foods perfect for after-work get-togethers, book club meetings, and informal baby showers. Muffalettas, All-American Hamburgers, and deep bowls of Summer Fruit Salad and Broccoli-Rice Salad are delicious at backyard cookouts, tailgate parties, and summer pool parties. And Three-Cheese Noodle Bake, Cuban Black Beans, and Baked Barbecued Chicken will attract happy fans whenever the potluck gathering calls for a hearty hot dish. Most recipes are designed to feed eight hungry people, but author (and home cook) Andrea Chesman provides advice throughout on expanding recipes, stretching dishes when the dinner seating unexpectedly grows from eight to eleven people, using clever shortcuts that make cooking for a crowd no more difficult than cooking for four, and generallymaintaining a degree of sanity as more people come flooding through the front door.As always, Chesman's primary accomplishment is to provide homey, hearty tastes that satisfy modern palates, yet still bear the unmistakable stamp of Mom's Best.

Quick-Toss Salad Meals (Fresh and Simple) Review

Quick-Toss Salad Meals (Fresh and Simple)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is an attractive little book with a photo of each salad by the recipe. Unfortunately, the recipes call for poor quality ingredients and sacrifices taste for convenience. This cookbook is better suited to a dorm room than a kitchen.
Many of the recipes use a bottled dressing with the addition of an ingredient or two to make a unique dressing. For example, Italian dressing with soy sauce and toasted sesame oil is an Asian dressing and non-fat pineapple yogurt and curry powder is a tropical dressing. Much better, fresher dressings could be whipped up in only a couple of minutes from scratch.
Non-fat Italian dressing, packaged greens, and packaged coleslaw mix are probably the most commonly used ingredients in the book. The last third of the book is pasta, rice, and legume salads.

Wiley Mullins has brought us a unique and fresh perspective on something most everyone enjoys...salad. These are not ordinary salads, however, many of them are meals in themselves. This book provides great flavor combinations and pairings, alternative protein selections, modern health information and different vinaigrettes for each offering.
