Weight Watchers Versatile Vegetarian Review

Weight Watchers Versatile Vegetarian
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cook-book offers vegan and vegetarian low-fat, low-calories recipes for those on the weight watchers program or for anyone else. The book contains 150 recipes and each has suggestions for variations so you can probably cook several hundred different varieties. Each recipe is clearly marked so that you can see if it should be prepared ahead or if it is fast and easy to make and so on.
The best things about this book:
+ Good value for my money
+ Each recipe has WW points and a full nutritional analysis per serving
+ Lots of tips for varieties of the dishes, other ingredients to try etc
+ Conversion table to metric units
The worst things about this book:
- Poor paper quality. Cookbooks really should have glossy paper so that you can wipe them easily.
- Some recipes are not very filling
A tip:
Many of the dishes can be prepared either partially or fully in advance. That's good if you need to: a) bring your own lunch to dinner, b) want the flavours to develop more fully, or c) if you want to avoid cooking when hungry.
You should buy this book if:
* You are a vegan or vegetarian on the WW program
* You want to eat healthy and wholesome food
* You are not a vegetarian but want to experiment with non-meat cooking

Weight Watchers Make It in Minutes: Easy Recipes in 15, 20, and 30 Minutes Review

Weight Watchers Make It in Minutes: Easy Recipes in 15, 20, and 30 Minutes

First, I do enjoy this cookbook. Everything I have made from it has been wonderful, and if you like the recipes in "Simply the Best: 250 Prizewinning Family Recipes" then I think you will like the recipes in this book. They are slightly more gourmet and less homey than the recipes in "Simply the Best," so if "Simply the Best" was pushing the edge of the exotic envelope for you, then you might prefer a different WW cookbook than this one for your next purchase.
The book is organized into three color-coded sections (15 minute, 20 minute, and 30 minutes) and each section is organized into breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes. Many of the lunch recipes would also work well for dinner or as part of dinner. This is the sort of cookbook that you will enjoy sitting down with and sticking post-it notes to promising recipes.
However, I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because the preparation times for the recipes are frequently deceptive. They are not the times for fixing these recipes from start to finish, they assume that you have already performed your preps. So, a 30 minute recipe might not include the time for pulling all of the ingredients out of the pantry and refrigerator, and tasks such as slicing raw chicken breasts or steak into strips, chopping onions, mincing garlic, chopping parsley, or peeling, deseeding, and slicing cucumbers. The cookbook "Desperation Dinners" by Beverly Mills and Alicia Ross (not a lowfat cookbook), for example, is truly a 20 minute start-to-finish recipe cookbook; this one is not, although in most cases the actual time will not be too much more than the stated time. One exception is the Apricot Glazed Pork Skewers with Mango Quinoa, which is supposed to be ready in 30 minutes. Even if your preps are all ready ahead of time I think you'd be hard-pressed to prepare this dish in under 45 minutes. The 30 minutes includes thinly slicing 1-1/2 pounds of pork tenderloin and threading it onto 12 skewers, which alone took me a good 15 minutes.
One thing I like about this cookbook is that it finally got me to try cooking with Fat-Free Half-and-Half, and I have been very pleased with the recipes that use this, such as a Creamy Cauliflower Soup (saute leeks in a little olive oil, add frozen cauliflower and canned chicken broth, simmer, puree, then finish with FF Half-and-Half, nutmeg, and S&P). My favorites recipes in this book, so far, are the Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Greek Chicken Pasta Toss, Chicken with Spicy Marmalade Glaze, Chicken Tacos with Salsa Verde Cream, and Sesame Glazed Shrimp with Snow Peas and Baby Corn.

Best of Weight Watchers Magazine : Over 145 Tasty Favorites--All 9 POINTS or Less Review

Best of Weight Watchers Magazine : Over 145 Tasty Favorites--All 9 POINTS or Less

This is my tenth cookbook from Weight Watchers. To be truthful, I bought my first when I joined the organization. But now I purchase them because I can't believe how they can build such delicious meals for so few calories and points(the way WW calculates the diet plan). This latest offering contains 10 chapters beginning with 'Starters' and concluding with 'The Year in Chocolate'. There is a chocolate jelly roll dessert that only has 129 calories and 3 points for an almost 1" thick slice. The Chocolate Crispy bars...you know those gooey bars with marshmallow cream and crispy rice cereal....ONE POINT!!!
Desserts aside, I grilled the Southwest Chicken with Pineapple Salsa (5 points) and this almost paid for the book. Pot au Feu, Chicken Cacciatore and Seafood Gumbo, 3, 4, and 5 points respectively, were just scrumptious. There is a chapter in the book entitled '5-Point Wonders' and the recipes that I have tried certainly live up to the billing.
For those of you who like to spice up your food, there is a chapter dedicated to doing just that. Spices add few if any calories, but the flavors explode in your mouth. I tried the Pork Barbeque (9 points) and this was definitely in keeping with the North Carolina version of bbq'd pork.
In short, this is a comprehensive guide to meal planning. Even entertaining ideas are provided. The allure of Weight Watchers is that you don't have to give up entire food groups to control your weight. If you stay within the guidelines or daily point values for your given weight, you can choose to eat anything and still lose weight. This book is a wonderful testament to that strategy and the food will not disappoint you. You won't have tell anyone that it is 'diet food' although I'm sure that Weight Watchers would be pleased if you did.

Cook It Quick: Speedy Recipes with Low POINTS Value in 30 Minutes or Less Review

Cook It Quick: Speedy Recipes with Low POINTS Value in 30 Minutes or Less
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using Weight Watchers cookbooks for at least 20 years. While the older cookbooks were kind of hit or miss, I must say that in the last few years the cookbooks have improved to the point that everything I've tried has been a hit.
This one is really a winner! The Sweet and Sour Pork, while not a traditional sweet and sour recipe (it's sweet but doesn't contain any "sour," such a vinegar or lemon juice), is very flavorful and a real favorite in our house.
Everything I've tried so far has turned out great and, as billed, is quick and easy to make. It's so great to have a repertoire of recipes that you can make at the last minute on your busiest days.
My husband doesn't even realize he's eating Weight Watchers recipes! They are that good.

Simply Delicious : 245 No-Fuss Recipes--All 8 POINTS or Less Review

Simply Delicious : 245 No-Fuss Recipes--All 8 POINTS or Less

I considered joining WW for a long time before actually doing so, entirely because I *love* to cook and was afraid to put my favorite recipes through the POINTS calculator. As it turned out, I was right to be afraid (mostly because I've never met a a dairy product I didn't like and my recipes reflected such) but that no longer matters because I've now got a new favorite cookbook.
I don't eat red meat or fowl, but almost every such recipe here is easily adapted to a non-meat version...AND there's an entire chapter devoted to vegetarian dishes. The layout is easy to read and use, the ingredients not too wacky but definitely not boring, and my results have been amazing...though perhaps the best recommendation I could give it is that not one of my dinner guests has known they're eating a WW recipe. Try this book - you won't be disappointed!

Vegetarian Times Low-Fat & Fast: 150 Easy Meatless Recipes Review

Vegetarian Times Low-Fat and Fast: 150 Easy Meatless Recipes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent cookbook for fast, low-fat vegetarian recipes. All of the recipes contain clear instructions and nutritional information per serving. Per serving, no recipe in the book is more than 10 grams of fat. Some of the recipes we have tried are: Quick Bean-and-Rice Burritos, Southwestern Vegetable Burritos, Fresh Noodles Lo Mein, Chinese Vegetables in Peanut Sauce, Sloppy Joes, Smoky White Bean Soup, Caramelized Onion and Fresh Vegetable Pizza, and Sesame Broccoli. All have been delicious. If you are looking for a quick, delicious, and basic vegetarian cookbook this book is for you. I would also recommend the other books in the Vegetarian Times Low-Fat & Fast series as well as 1001 Low-Fat Recipes by Sue Spitler. You won't be disappointed.
