The $7 Meals Cookbook: 301 Delicious Dishes You Can Make for Seven Dollars or Less Review

I was really surprised by the quality of the recipes in this book. For $10, getting 300 recipes is quite a deal already. The use of fresh ingredients is a real bonus. I've been able to make quite a few of the recipes for under $7, which is a huge deal in these tough economic times. My family loved the Salmon Stuffed Potatoes and Greek Pasta. And there's even nutrition information!

Cookin' Healthy With One Foot Out the Door/Quick Meals for Fast Times Review

Cookin' Healthy With One Foot Out the Door/Quick Meals for Fast Times

This small, humor-laden vegan cookbook has many excellent recipes, and the Mushroom Stroganoff completely surprised some non-vegetarian friends that I had over to dinner one night. They wondered aloud how I, as a vegetarian, could eat something that obviously had lots of meat and dairy in it, and were surprised to hear it had neither. They also thought I must have spent a lot of time on it, but (thanks to pre-sliced mushrooms at Whole Foods) it only took 15 minutes to prepare. I have had several requests for this recipe every time I make it.
At first I was skeptical that the dairyless sour cream could taste anything like the real thing. I was pleasantly surprised! I'm not a vegan, but now it's the only kind of "sour cream" I'll eat. Very good with Mexican food.
The only recipe I could not make successfully was the blueberry coffee cake. I followed the directions to the letter, but ended up throwing the whole thing out. I may try again someday.
Delia and Polly sound like a couple of nuts. I like that in my friends, and hope to meet them someday.
Enjoy the recipes!

Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cooking Made Light Review

After my stint in one of the big, meal-delivery weight-loss programs, I started to round the bend toward my goal weight. It soon came time for me to manage my weight on my own, with healthy, self-prepared meals. This cookbook made it a no-brainer.
Every recipe has a listing of its nutritional information along with the percentage of vitamins in each meal. Truth be told, I'm not terribly into cooking, but the pictures are fantastic and go a long way to motivating me to cook a meal. The fact that most of these recipes are so easy to make is also a huge plus.
I did find one problem, in that some of the ingredients can be a bit difficult to find. Though, I've been quite successful at substituting similar items whenever I couldn't find what was needed at a local market.
While I could take or leave Sandra Lee's television show, I am very glad to have bought this book. I've made 17 of the recipes, thus far. Not only have I enjoyed them, but my husband and VERY picky 2 year old have loved every single one of these healthy meals, as well.

Taste of Home: Busy Family Cookbook: 370 Recipes for Weeknight Dinners Review

Taste of Home: Busy Family Cookbook: 370 Recipes for Weeknight Dinners

I purchased this cookbook a month ago and have tried several different recipes. So far my family has loved every single one of them, and there are a lot more that I can't wait to try. This cookbook is designed for busy families (in case the title didn't tip you off); if you have the time, energy, and desire to cook exotic and extravagant meals, this is not the cookbook for you. But if you're like most families I know, and so busy that you have the pizza place's number memorized, then you should definitely give this book a chance. Regarding an earlier review, I agree that this is a good cookbook for a new cook, but I would also recommend it to any busy family, even if the cook has some experience. It's easy to get stuck in a "dinner rut" when you're constantly needing fast & easy meals; this cookbook is the cure. I'd also recommend it for families with picky eaters, as the recipes can satisfy the adults' desire for something different without being so exotic that the kids won't eat it. I've looked at other cookbooks and haven't found any that had such a large number of recipes that I wanted to try. The recipes are all quick and easy, and they don't require obscure ingredients. I love that most of the recipes include a photograph and a brief comment. I used to agonize over what I'd fix for dinner on weeknights; now I'm excited, thinking "which recipe should I try next?" This cookbook is well worth the money--5 stars.
